2023 CLTA-TEXAS Teacher Grants
Call for Proposals
Purpose:
CLTA-TEXAS Teacher Grants support the professional development of K-16 teachers to improve classroom instruction and student engagement.
Applicant Eligibility:
- According to CLTA-TEXAS Bylaws, applicants must be a paid member.
- The applicant must have been a paid member (individual) for at least 12 months before the application due date, September 22, 2023.
This means the nominee paid the 2022-2023 individual membership fee of $25, and has paid 2023-2024 individual membership fee of $25 before September 22, 2023.
- If awarded the grant, the applicant must continue to be a paid member (individual) for the upcoming year and pay the 2024-2025 individual membership fee before July 1, 2024 (before releasing the fund).
- The applicant must be a current Full-Time K-16 Chinese language educator.
Amount:
The 2022 CLTA-TEXAS Teacher Grants amount is up to US$300 for the proposal you submitted.
Application Deadline:
Applications may be submitted by September 22, 2023, 11:59pm.
Awardees will be notified by October 15, 2023.
Application Guidelines:
Applicants need to submit a proposal of approximately 300 words (in English and/or Chinese) which includes the following:
- Introduction of yourself (including current employment and a short essay describing how the proposed professional development will benefit you personally and professionally).
- A detailed description of the professional development workshop/conference that you are attending.
- An explanation of the need for attending the professional development workshop/conference.
- Expected outcomes (what do you want to learn/gain from the professional development workshop/conference and the potential impact to the community you will bring back from the professional development workshop/conference, etc.).
- Any prior experience being the speaker at any professional development workshops/conferences.
- A line-item budget for the proposed professional development workshop/conference.
- One recommendation letter from your supervisors ( LOTE director, school principal, department chair, or equivalent per your educational institution), emailed directly to cltatx@gmail.com, subject: Teacher Grant Recommendation for << applicant’s name>>
Your supervisor will be contacted to confirm the recommendation.
- Provide your supervisors’ names and contact information (LOTE director, school principal, department chair, or equivalent per your educational institution). Your supervisors will be CC’d if you are the Grant Winner.
Requirements:
The CLTA-TEXAS Teacher Grants winner must:
- Complete the proposed professional development workshop/conference by June 30, 2024, and
- Within one month after the conclusion of the proposed activities, submit an activity report with evidence of the professional development workshop/conference you attended, such as:
- Application form of the professional development workshop/conference you attended,
- The handout of the professional development workshop/conference you attended
- The original meal receipts (paper form),
- The original hotel receipts (paper form),
- Make a 30, 45 or 60-minute presentation at the upcoming 2024 CLTA-TEXAS Annual Conference to share what you learned from the workshop/conference that you attended thanks to the Grant.
(Topic has to be about the workshop/conference that you attended, and what you have learned from the workshop, and/or how you applied what you learned in your own classroom, etc.)
(* Winner will receive a check for the awarded amount after fulfilling the required presentation.)
Please note:
* All receipts should be in their original paper form. No digital receipts will be accepted.
* Airfare will NOT be covered/accepted by CLTA-TEXAS Teacher Grants.
Limitation:
- Previous Teacher Grants winners will not be eligible to apply for a period of THREE (3) years.
(Winners from both Year 2020 and 2021 may not apply for 2023 Teacher Grants.)
