History

The Chinese Language Teachers Association of Texas (CLTA-TEXAS) was founded in 2007 to promote Chinese language learning and teaching in Texas. In 2008 CLTA-TEXAS obtained status as a non-profit political and professional organization and began to host area workshops and an annual conference.

CLTA-TEXAS hosts a website (clta-texas.org), publishes a bi-yearly newsletter and has provided pedagogical support for Texas-Startalk. CLTA-TEXAS has a core of approximately 70 regular members; the annual conference normally attracts over 100 registered participants.

To date, CLTA-TEXAS has had nine (9) presidents:

  2. Marshall McArthur of the University of Houston,  
  3. Ardon Chang of the Fort Worth Chinese School,
  4. Jiayao Pang of the Awty International School in Houston,
  5. Neal Liang of the University of Texas @ Arlington,  
  6. Amy Chen of the Austin ISD,
  7. Angelina Wu-Gilbertson of the GCISD,
  8. Yuhsin Lee of the Carrol ISD,
  9. Chia-Jung Chiang of St. Mark’s School of Texas.
